Theory of Teaching

In schools, we most often find that students learn through drills. No not fire drills, but academic drills. Teachers make students study, study, study...over and over and over. You would think that something like that would help, but think again. In a more effective school where children aren't just recepticles to be filled, children are asking questions to broaden their knowledge. Often times, teachers just teach what needs to be taught while students just copy down the information. There isn't any learning that goes on in this process. The student's brains' are lying dormant during this process because they aren't aloud to think outside the box. In our educational institutions it's rare for a teacher to have their students test what they are teaching. I've two teachers throughout my entire education so far that has told me "to take everything I learn with a grain of salt". For those of you who don't know that expression it means that I should not believe everything I'm taught, but more than that I should question everything and come up with my own opinions. So I tell you all now, don't be just a recepticle for teachers to fill you up. Use this to help you transform so you can be more active in your learning. Take control of your education and reap it's benefits as best as you can.

I agree with you that now days students are not learning but are just meaning being fed information. There is no actual retaining of knowledge; I myself have noticed this coming into college. And instead of having a class I have a lecture where information is put in front of me and I have minutes to copy as much down as I can before even more information is put in front of me to assimilate. Although this is an effective way of learning I believe it is in no way the best way. However when there are move students then teachers you have to compromise and do the best you can.
